Vice Admiral Dinesh Tripathi Assumes Role as Vice Chief of the Navy

New Delhi: Vice Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi Assumes Position of Vice Chief of the Navy, Succeeding Vice Admiral Sanjay J Singh

Vice Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi took charge as the Vice Chief of the Navy on Thursday, succeeding Vice Admiral Sanjay J Singh, who assumed the role of Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the prominent Western Naval Command.

Having completed his education at the esteemed National Defence Academy in Khadakwasla, Vice Admiral Tripathi joined the Indian Navy on July 1, 1985. With expertise in communication and electronic warfare, he has served on frontline warships in various positions, including signal communication officer and electronic warfare officer.

During his naval career, Vice Admiral Tripathi commanded several Indian naval ships such as Vinash, Kirch, and Trishul, showcasing his leadership abilities and operational skills. He has also held significant positions in operational and staff roles, including fleet operations officer of the Western Fleet in Mumbai and director of naval operations. Moreover, he served as the principal director of network centric operations and naval plans in Delhi.

Promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral, he assumed the role of assistant chief of naval staff (policy and plans) at the naval headquarters before commanding the Eastern Fleet as the Flag Officer Commanding.

Meanwhile, Vice Admiral Sanjay J Singh assumed the prestigious position of Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C) of the Western Naval Command on Wednesday. With an impressive career spanning over 37 years, Vice Admiral Singh graduated from the National Defence Academy in Pune and was commissioned into the executive branch of the Navy in 1986. His extensive experience includes serving on various classes of naval ships and fulfilling commanding, training, and staff appointments.

Vice Admiral Singh has held significant roles such as assistant chief of naval staff (communications, space, and network-centric operations), flag officer sea training, flag officer commanding Western Fleet, commandant of the naval war college, and controller of personnel services and deputy chief of integrated defence staff (operations). Notably, he played a crucial role in drafting significant naval documents like the Maritime Doctrine in 2009, Strategic Guidance to Transformation in 2015, and the Indian Maritime Security Strategy in 2015.

With his specialization in Navigation and Direction in 1992 and attending the advanced command and staff course in the UK in 2000, Vice Admiral Singh has demonstrated his commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

In recognition of their outstanding service, Vice Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi was awarded the Nau Sena Medal in 2009, while Vice Admiral Sanjay J Singh received the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2020.
