New Delhi: In an effort to boost tourist visits and stimulate the economy, Indonesia is planning to offer free entry visas to travelers from 20 countries, including India. This strategic move, expected to significantly enhance the tourism sector, was announced last week by Indonesian Tourism Minister, Sandiaga Uno highlighted that the project to extend the visa exemption policy is progressing smoothly and will be implemented “before the change of government in October 2024.”

In addition to India, the visa waiver will benefit tourists from several other key nations, including Australia, China, Japan, the United States, South Korea, France, Germany, Qatar, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates. This selection of countries reflects Indonesia’s focus on markets with high travel potential and significant spending power, which are crucial for boosting the tourism industry’s recovery and growth. The introduction of visa-free entry is expected to simplify travel procedures, encouraging more tourists to choose Indonesia as their holiday destination. This influx of visitors is anticipated to contribute significantly to the local economy through increased spending on accommodation, dining, and attractions, thereby supporting job creation and economic development.

As Indonesia moves forward with this policy, The upcoming visa-free entry for Indian tourists and others marks a significant milestone in Indonesia’s efforts to create a vibrant and sustainable tourism industry.
