PM Modi Leads as Most Popular Global Leader with a 78% Approval Rating

New Delhi: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has maintained his position as the world’s most popular leader, according to data released by the US-based consultancy firm Morning Consult on December 7. With an impressive approval rating of 78%, Modi surpassed other global leaders. Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador secured the second spot with a 68% approval rating, followed by Alain Berset, the President of the Swiss Confederation, at 58%. The fourth and fifth positions were claimed by Brazil’s Lula da Silva and Australia’s Anthony Albanese, respectively, according to Morning Consult’s weekly survey.

In contrast, US President Joe Biden found himself at the eighth spot with a 37% approval rating. The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Petr Fiala, received the lowest approval rating at 16%, while UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s approval rating stood at 25%.

When it comes to disapproval ratings, Prime Minister Modi had an 18% disapproval rate, while President Obrador of Mexico had a 29% disapproval rate.

Morning Consult’s latest approval ratings are based on data collected from November 29 to December 5, 2023. The ratings utilize a seven-day moving average of adult residents in each country, with varying sample sizes.

Leaders of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) celebrated Modi’s international approval ratings, hailing his leadership as reflected in the survey. BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla emphasized that Modi’s governance model and delivery had received global recognition. Following the recent assembly election results, Poonawalla expressed confidence that Modi’s approval ratings would translate into success in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in 2024.

The acknowledgement of “Modi ki guarantee” and “Modi’s magic” by an international poll further underscores the BJP’s confidence in Modi’s leadership. As the Prime Minister continues to enjoy popularity both domestically and internationally, the survey results are expected to play a role in shaping the political narrative leading up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
