120 Indian Athletes Set to Qualify for 2024 Paris Olympics, Says New Sports Minister
As the countdown to the 2024 Paris Olympics nears 90 days, Indian athletes are intensifying their preparations to secure spots for the prestigious event. Many have already qualified, while others are aiming to do so in upcoming competitions. Wrestlers can earn quotas at the Asian Olympic Qualifiers from April 19, while track and field athletes have until June 30 to meet entry standards. Those falling short can still qualify through world rankings until July 7.
In sports like shooting and wrestling, national federations decide which athletes will compete based on earned quotas. For example, if an athlete secures a quota in women’s 53kg freestyle wrestling, the Wrestling Federation of India will determine the final contender through trials if needed.
During a recent meeting with Indian Olympic Association President PT Usha, newly appointed Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya reaffirmed the government’s support for India’s Olympic hopefuls. He expressed confidence that 120 Indian athletes will qualify for the Paris Games, reflecting optimism and readiness among the contingent.
