Asia Cup, IND vs SL: Wellalage’s efforts in vain, India in final.

Delhi: India defeated Sri Lanka in their Super 4 encounter with a commanding 41-run victory to go to the Asia Cup final. Indian captain Rohit Sharma watched as left-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage excelled with the ball, grabbing a five-wicket haul (5/40) to eliminate India for a total of 213, after winning the toss and choosing to bat. Wellalage and Charith Asalanka (4/18), a spin bowling combination, created havoc in the middle overs and eventually dismissed India in 49.1 overs. The only players to have crossed 30 runs mark were Rohit Sharma (53), Ishan Kishan (33), and KL Rahul (39). By the end of 47 overs, until rains stopped play, India scored 197/9 in 47 overs. Currently, the pitch is covered and the rains are continuing. After the rains stopped and matched resumes, the Sri Lankan pacers winded up the last wicket and India’s innings at 213.Sri Lanka struggled to maintain momentum, losing wickets at regular intervals. Kuldeep Yadav impressed with figures of 4 for 43, while Jasprit Bumrah (2/30) made early breakthroughs that contributed to India’s triumph. Sri Lanka’s innings concluded at 172 in 41.3 overs.For Sri Lanka, apart from Dhananjaya de Silva (41) and Dunith Wellalage* (42), no other batter could stand in front of Indian bowling attack.
