Basit Ali Urges Pakistan to Adopt India’s Domestic System for Test Cricket Success

New Delhi: Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has urged Pakistan to emulate India’s domestic cricket system to enhance their performance in Test cricket. This comes in the wake of Pakistan’s disappointing 10-wicket defeat against Bangladesh in the first Test of their two-match series at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. This loss was particularly significant as it marked Bangladesh’s first-ever Test victory against Pakistan.

The defeat has sparked widespread criticism of Pakistan’s cricket structure, with many questioning the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) role in developing new talent. Basit Ali, sharing his thoughts on the issue, pointed to Pakistan’s upcoming Champions Cup, a One-Day tournament scheduled to follow the ongoing Test series against Bangladesh, as an example of misplaced priorities.

Ali criticized Pakistan for mimicking the domestic systems of England, Australia, and New Zealand without achieving the desired results. He suggested that Pakistan should instead look to India, their neighboring country, and learn from their successful approach. “Pakistan has copied the systems of England, Australia, and New Zealand. India is right next to us; please copy their system too. You need intelligence in copying as well. Just copy what India is doing,” Ali commented on his YouTube channel.

He also praised India for their focus on strengthening the foundation of their cricket by organizing tournaments like the Duleep Trophy, a four-day event aimed at fostering red-ball talent. According to Ali, this emphasis on building a strong base is the key to India’s sustained success in Test cricket.
