BCCI extends contracts of Rahul Dravid as Head Coach, support staff for Team India

 

Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Wednesday, announced the extension of contracts for Head Coach Rahul Dravid, and the support staff for Team India. This has come after speculations that Dravid would announce his departure from his role as the Team India head coach that was coming to an end following India’s loss to Australia in the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 team. Following the expiration of his contract, the board entered into discussions with Dravid to extend his tenure, as stated by the BCCI. The board expressed its gratitude for Dravid’s contribution in shaping the team and praised his outstanding professionalism.

Additionally, the BCCI commended VVS Laxman for his position as the head of the National Cricket Academy and his interim coaching role. In a statement, the BCCI highlighted the close collaboration between Mr. Dravid and Mr. Laxman, drawing parallels to their legendary on-field partnerships, in advancing Indian Cricket.

BCCI President Roger Binny acknowledged the intense scrutiny Rahul Dravid faced and praised his ability to thrive in such conditions. Binny expressed delight that Dravid accepted the offer to continue as Head Coach, highlighting the mutual respect and shared vision between Dravid and the BCCI. Binny expressed confidence that under Dravid’s guidance, the team would achieve new heights of success.

BCCI Honorary Secretary Jay Shah emphasized Dravid’s unmatched commitment to excellence and stated that there is no better person than Dravid for the Head Coach role. Shah credited Team India’s top rankings across all formats to Dravid’s strategic roadmap, indicating his confidence in Dravid’s leadership.
