Chamari Athapaththu Makes History with First T20I Century in Women’s Asia Cup 2024
New Delhi: In a groundbreaking performance, Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu etched her name into the record books by becoming the first-ever T20I centurion in the history of the Women’s Asia Cup. Achieving this milestone on July 22, Athapaththu scored an unbeaten 119 runs from just 63 balls in a dominant group stage match against Malaysia.
Athapaththu’s exceptional innings guided Sri Lanka Women to a formidable total of 184 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Her innings not only showcased her incredible batting prowess but also helped Sri Lanka secure their largest T20I victory by runs. In response, Malaysia Women struggled against a disciplined Sri Lankan bowling attack, managing to bat through 119 balls but ultimately being dismissed for a meager 40 runs. The match ended with Sri Lanka Women winning by a resounding 144 runs.
