CWC2023::India win by eight wickets against Afghanistan.

Delhi: India continued their winning run with an eight-wicket victory over Afghanistan in the World Cup here on Wednesday. The most centuries in World Cup history were scored by Rohit Sharma, who smashed an 84-ball 131 to chase down the required 273 runs. Ishan Kishan (47), Virat Kohli (55 not out), and Shreyas Iyer (25 not out) also made contributions as the hosts cruised to victory in 35 overs.

For the first wicket, Rohit and Ishan combined for a 156-run partnership, laying the groundwork for the chase.

India’s pacer bowled well to restrict Afghanistan on 272/8 after 50 overs. Jasprit Bumrah clinched 4 wickets, Hardik Pandya 2, while Kuldeep Yadav and Shardul Thakur got one wicket each. For Aghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi (80) and Azmatullah Omarzai played well to take the score forward.

Afghanistan, on the other hand, had a tough start to the ODI World Cup with a six-wicket defeat to Bangladesh in their first encounter at the HPCA stadium in Dharamsala.
