CWC23:AUS defeated ENG by 33 runs
Delhi: Australia crushed England by 33 runs, effectively eliminating the defending champions from the ICC World Cup 2023. Spinner Adam Zampa took three key wickets to help his team, while Ben Stokes fought hard and scored 64 runs.
Australia’s strong batter order couldn’t do that well against out of the form England as the team was all-out on a score of 286 runs. Chris Woakes clinched 4 wickets while Mark Wood and Adil Rashid got 2 wickets each to stop Australia on decent score. Marnus Labuschagne scored the highest 71 for Australia while Cameron Green contributed 47 runs.
Dawid Malan (50) and Ben Stokes (64) hit half-centuries for England, and while their lower order batsmen Moeen Ali (42), Chris Woakes (32), David Willey (15), and Adil Rashid (20) came close, it was the Men in Yellow who came out on top.
Australia’s victory moves them to 10 points from 7 games, strengthening their position in the top four. With 14 and 12 points, respectively, India and South Africa are the only two teams that have assured themselves a place in the tournament’s knockout round, although two berths remain vacant for which six countries are mathematically eligible to qualify.
