CWC23:Australia overcome New Zealand challenge in run-fest classic.

Delhi: In a high-scoring World Cup thriller on Saturday, Australia edged out gallant New Zealand by five runs. Australia totaled 388 runs, with Travis Head scoring 109 and fellow starter David Warner contributing 81.

New Zealand battled hard with Rachin Ravindra making 116 and Jimmy Neesham supplying late fireworks with a 33-ball fifty before Lockie Ferguson tried and failed to hit a six off the last ball leaving the Kiwis stranded on 383-9.

A remarkable opening partnership between David Warner (81 from 65) and the returning Travis Head (109 from 67) got Pat Cummins’ side off to a blistering start.But, with the opening pair having put on 175 in just 19 overs, Australia struggled to keep their foot to the floor through the middle overs.Glenn Maxwell, Josh Inglis and Pat Cummins exploded through the death overs to boost Australia’s score, but their 388 could have been even higher, with New Zealand taking four wickets for just 1 run in the last two overs to bowl their neighbours out for 388.
