Delhi: DD Sports has undergone a significant transformation, now being known as DD Sports HD. Prasar Bharati, the public broadcaster of India, has introduced this High-Definition channel to meet the demands of sports enthusiasts across the nation. DD Sports HD will kick off its programming with the ongoing Asia Cup cricket matches and aims to become the go-to choice for sports lovers, offering major international sporting events in High-Definition quality. The channel plans to introduce more fresh content and enhance its publicity efforts in the coming months.
Recent initiatives by DD Sports have included innovative content presentation approaches. During the recent India Vs. West Indies cricket series, Doordarshan Network provided commentary in multiple languages such as Tamil, Kannada, Bangla, Telugu, and Bhojpuri in addition to Hindi and English. DD Sports has also formed partnerships with prominent sports organizations like the NBA and PGTA to introduce new content to the channel. Several content synergy tie-ups are in the pipeline, positioning DD Sports as a leading channel in the sports genre.
DD Sports originally launched on March 18, 1998, initially broadcasting sports programs for 6 hours a day, which later increased to 12 hours in 1999. On June 1, 2000, it became a 24-hour satellite channel. With the introduction of DD Sports HD, the channel aims to become the primary destination for major international sporting events as well as grassroots transformative events like the Khelo India Games, winter games, and events for people with disabilities.
Currently, DD Sports is available on Channel Number 079 on DD Free Dish and will soon expand its availability to other platforms.
