Harmanpreet Kaur Returns for Semi-Final, Forgets Key Playing XI Changes

Harmanpreet Kaur

New Delhi: In a dramatic turn of events, Harmanpreet Kaur made her return as captain for India’s semi-final clash against Bangladesh in the Women’s Asia Cup 2024. Despite her leadership role, Kaur inadvertently overlooked a few crucial playing XI changes that were planned for the high-stakes match.

For the semi-final held on July 26, 2024, Uma Chetry made her debut in the Asia Cup 2024, stepping in for Dayalan Hemalatha. Pooja Vastrakar, who was given a rest during the previous game against Nepal, also returned to the squad, replacing Arundhati Reddy. Meanwhile, S Sajana, who had featured in the last match, was benched as Harmanpreet reclaimed her position in the lineup.

At the toss, Kaur expressed confidence in her team’s performance, saying, “We’ve played really good cricket so far. Today, we want to back ourselves. The powerplay is always crucial, whether batting first or second. Bangladesh is a strong side, providing stiff competition, but we need to stick to what has worked for us.”

Harmanpreet led the team’s huddle with motivational words, emphasizing the importance of their strategy against their neighboring rivals. Despite the oversight at the toss, the Indian side was ready to make a statement with the adjusted lineup.
