Historic win: India register fastest Test win in Cape Town

New Delhi: In a historic turn of events in Cape Town, India achieved the fastest Test match win in history by ending the game within 642 balls. On the second day, South Africa’s second innings was reduced to a paltry score of 176 runs, leaving India with a paltry target of 79 runs. The visiting team efficiently chased down the target in just 12 overs, which is an unprecedented feat in the history of Test cricket.

The previous record for the fastest Test finish was in 1932 when Australia completed the match against South Africa in 652 balls. The short duration of the Cape Town Test, the 25th match ending within two days, underlined the dominance of the bowlers in a contest in which India’s pace attack took all 20 wickets – a feat achieved only twice before, in Johannesburg (2018).
