India become second team in history to top ICC rankings in all three formats.

Delhi: India became the top-ranked side in all three formats of the game following their win against Australia in the series opener that elevated them to the number one spot in the ODI rankings.

India (116 rating points) displaced their arch-rivals Pakistan (115) at the top of the rankings after the win in the first ODI. Australia remain third but the gap between the top two has now widened after they dropped two points to 111. India are the second team in history to be the best side in the world, according to the ICC, in all three formats at the same time, with South Africa ranked No.1 in all three when they took the Test mace off England in August 2012.

India’s dominance is now extended to all formats, where they are No.1 at Tests and T20Is. In the history of men’s cricket there have been only two instances where a team has claimed the No.1 position in all formats. In August 2012, it was the first time this had ever been done in South Africa.
