India Triumphs in Women’s Asia Cup 2024 Final with 10-Wicket Win Over Bangladesh

New Delhi: In a commanding performance, the Indian women’s cricket team secured the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 title with a resounding 10-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the final held in Dambulla on Friday.

Bangladesh, after winning the toss and electing to bat, struggled throughout their innings. They were restricted to a modest 80/8 in their allotted 20 overs. The Indian bowlers, led by Renuka Singh and Radha Yadav, were in exceptional form, each claiming three wickets. Renuka Singh’s incisive bowling was instrumental in dismantling the Bangladesh lineup, while Radha Yadav provided valuable support. Pooja Vastrakar and Deepti Sharma also contributed with one wicket each, ensuring Bangladesh’s innings faltered.

In response, India’s chase was anchored by a stellar performance from their openers. Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma remained unbeaten as India chased down the target of 81 runs effortlessly. Mandhana played a crucial knock of 55* off 39 balls, hitting nine fours and a six, while Verma contributed a solid 26* from 28 balls. The Indian team reached 83/0 in just 11 overs, sealing the victory in style.

After the match, India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur lauded her team’s performance, especially the bowlers. She emphasized their consistent effort and ability to execute plans effectively. Kaur expressed pride in the team’s dominance in Asian cricket and highlighted the importance of maintaining consistency. She also noted that the team would prepare thoroughly based on the outcome of the Sri Lanka vs. Pakistan semi-final.
