Manu Bhaker and PR Sreejesh Lead India as Flag Bearers at Paris Olympics 2024 Closing Ceremony

New Delhi: Double bronze medalist Manu Bhaker and bronze-winning Indian men’s hockey player PR Sreejesh had the honor of being India’s flag bearers at the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics. The 22-year-old Bhaker described the experience as the “honor of a lifetime” on social media platform X, expressing her pride in leading alongside Sreejesh. “Proud to be India’s flag-bearer alongside one of the nation’s true sporting heroes @16Sreejesh! Jai Hind,” she tweeted.

Sreejesh, who concluded his illustrious 18-year career at the Olympics, viewed this moment as the “cherry on the cake” of his storied journey. He shared a photo with Bhaker, both proudly holding the Indian tricolor.

Bhaker’s Olympic achievements include winning bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event and the mixed team 10m air pistol event with Sarbjot Singh. She narrowly missed a third medal, finishing 4th in the women’s 25m air rifle event.

The Indian men’s hockey team, led by Sreejesh, secured back-to-back bronze medals in Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024. India’s overall performance at the Games saw the nation place 71st in the medal tally, with one silver and five bronze medals. Neeraj Chopra’s throw of 89.45 meters earned India its only silver medal, while shooters Swapnil Kusale and Aman Sehrwat also contributed bronze medals.

The United States topped the medal table with 40 golds, 44 silvers, and 42 bronzes, closely followed by China with 40 golds but fewer silvers and bronzes.
