New Delhi: Australian cricket star Marnus Labuschagne has officially retired the bat he used during the thrilling ODI World Cup 2023 final. On August 12, Labuschagne shared an image of the worn-out bat on Instagram, declaring it was time to retire the significant piece of equipment.

In the final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Labuschagne played a crucial role in Australia’s victory over India. Facing intense pressure with Australia struggling at 47/3, Labuschagne steadied the innings with a crucial knock of 58 runs off 110 balls. His calm and composed innings was instrumental in setting up a game-changing partnership with Travis Head.

Head’s explosive performance, smashing 137 runs off 120 balls, including 15 fours and four sixes, complemented Labuschagne’s more restrained innings. Together, they formed a 192-run stand that dismantled the Indian bowling attack and guided Australia to chase down the target of 241 in just 43 overs. This remarkable effort ensured Australia’s six-wicket victory and their sixth ODI World Cup title.

Throughout the tournament, Labuschagne accumulated 362 runs across ten innings, maintaining a solid average of 40.22 and a strike rate of 70.70. His highest score of 71 runs off 83 balls came against England, highlighting his consistency and contribution throughout the competition.
