Mohammed Shami picks his 2nd 5-wicket haul to register his best ODI figures in 1st ODI against Australia.

Delhi: Mohammed Shami reminded everyone of his capabilities while helping India restrict Australia to 276 in the first ODI on Friday in Mohali with his best ODI stats of 5 for 51. With his second five-wicket haul in ODIs, Shami bowled a terrific spell with the new ball and got India off to a flying start with a wicket in the very first over of the game. The pacer then ran through Australia’s lower-middle order to complete his second fifer in the fifty-over format.Shami struck on the fourth delivery of the first over to dismiss Mitchell Marsh cheaply on just 4 off 4 balls after India won the toss and opted to bowl first in the series opener.

In the 22nd over, Shami came back to dismiss Smith as Australia lost two wickets in short succession and once again found themselves in trouble. Cameron Green (31) and Marnus Labuschagne (39), however, put out a heroic effort that allowed them to right the ship. As Australia was bowled out for 276 runs in 50 overs, Shami continued to claim three crucial wickets—Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Short, and Sean Abbott—to clinch his five-wicket haul.
