Stefanos Tsitsipas Aims for Olympic Glory at Paris Games
New Delhi: Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas has highlighted his profound connection to the Olympic Games, emphasizing their special significance to him because of their Greek origins. Tsitsipas is determined to realize his dream of winning an Olympic medal at the upcoming Paris Games, scheduled to take place this month. Historically, Greece, the birthplace of the Olympic Games, has won three Olympic medals in tennis, all during the inaugural modern Olympics in Athens in 1896.
“Greece and the Olympic Games go together like bread and butter. It has been a dream of mine since I started playing tennis,” said Tsitsipas, currently ranked world number 12, in an interview with Stats Perform. “Since I first picked up a tennis racket, I always wanted to be an athlete who participates in such an event. And aiming for a medal is something extraordinary.”
“My dream continues to evolve and persist, and my path toward this goal is steadily progressing. For me, the ultimate achievement would be walking away from the Games with a medal,” he added.
The Olympic tennis competition is set from July 27 to August 4 and will be held at the renowned Roland Garros stadium, the same venue that hosts the French Open. Tsitsipas has shown remarkable performance on the clay courts of Roland Garros. In 2021, he reached a significant milestone by advancing to the French Open final. Additionally, in the last two editions of this prestigious Grand Slam tournament, Tsitsipas consistently reached the quarter-final stage, demonstrating his skill and consistency on this challenging surface.
“Getting good preparation before the Games start in August is something I am looking forward to,” Tsitsipas stated. “I had great success a few years ago at the same stadium, playing the finals of Roland Garros. Returning with that confidence and the memories in my mind motivates me to strive and work toward the same end goal, replicating the amazing run I had a few years ago.”
