T20 World Cup 2024: India Secures Spot in Super Eight with Dominant Seven-Wicket Win Over USA

New Delhi: T20 World Cup 2024: India’s men’s cricket team advanced to the Super Eight stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 after defeating the USA by seven wickets in their third Group A match at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Wednesday. With three wins from three matches, India tops Group A with six points.

While cricket is relatively unknown to many Americans, the USA team, led by Monank Patel, impressed by defeating Pakistan earlier in the tournament. This led to high expectations for their match against India, dubbed as India versus ‘Mini India.’ However, match No. 25 of the ICC event saw India’s unbeaten run continue, ending the USA’s streak at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.

Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh made history by taking a wicket on the first ball of the match, dismissing Shayan Jahangir for a golden duck and later Andries Gous, resulting in the USA’s lowest powerplay score against India. Arshdeep, along with Jasprit Bumrah, restricted the USA to 110-8 in 20 overs.

In response, USA’s Saurabh Netravalkar dismissed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli early, but Suryakumar Yadav (50*) and Shivam Dube (31*) ensured India chased down the target in 18.2 overs. With this win, India secured their spot in the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup.
