T20 World Cup 2024: Pakistan vs Canada
New Delhi: T20 World Cup 2024: Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan and captain Babar Azam led their team to a crucial seven-wicket win over Canada, keeping their T20 World Cup hopes alive. Facing potential early elimination, Rizwan and Babar’s partnership of 63 runs helped Pakistan chase down the target of 107 with 15 balls to spare.
Rizwan remained unbeaten on 53 off 53 balls, hitting two fours and a six, marking his 29th T20 international half-century. Babar contributed 33 runs from 33 balls, including a four and a six.
This victory followed a tough start for Pakistan in Group A, where they lost their first two matches. They faced a super-over defeat by the United States and a narrow six-run loss to India, failing to chase a modest target of 120 runs.
In Tuesday’s game at Nassau County International Stadium, New York, Pakistan restricted Canada to 106-7 after opting to bowl first. Mohammad Amir was named Player of the Match for his three-wicket performance. Pakistan must now win their remaining match against Ireland to have a chance of advancing to the Super Eights. Canada also needs a win, but their negative net run rate makes their progression unlikely.
