VVS Laxman could be Indian cricket team’s next coach.
Delhi: Multiple sources have informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that Rahul Dravid has opted not to extend his tenure as the head coach. Dravid has conveyed this decision to the BCCI. Consequently, VVS Laxman, who is currently in charge of the second-string Indian team and holds the position of head at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, is likely to assume the role of head coach.
“Laxman has expressed a strong interest in the position. While the World Cup was ongoing, he made a trip to Ahmedabad to discuss this matter with the top officials of the BCCI. It is anticipated that he will finalize a long-term contract as the head coach of Team India and is set to accompany the team in that capacity for the upcoming tour of South Africa. This will mark his inaugural stint as the full-time head coach of India, according to a credible source within the BCCI.”
Dravid was appointed as the coach in November 2021 for a two-year period. Under his tenure as the coach. Team India reached the final of the ODI World Cup and ICC World Test Championship. The same source said that Dravid reached out to BCCI, saying that the former India captain is fine with the job of head of NCA as it helps him stay in Bengaluru. Dravid is also okay coaching the side sporadically but not as full-time coach.
