Apple vintage products

New Delhi: Apple Inc. has officially marked three of its products as “vintage.” The latest additions to Apple’s vintage and obsolete products list include the iPhone X, first-generation AirPods, and the original HomePod. This classification was reported by MacRumors.

What Does “Vintage” Mean?

  • Vintage Products: These are items that have been out of sales for more than five years but less than seven years. They are still eligible for repairs if parts are available.
  • Obsolete Products: These are items that have been off the market for over seven years. They are no longer supported for hardware services.

Product Highlights:

  1. iPhone X:
    • Release Year: 2017
    • Features: First iPhone with edge-to-edge OLED display, Face ID, and no Home button. It started at a $999 price, setting a new high for premium smartphones.
  2. First-Generation AirPods:
    • Release Year: 2016
    • Significance: Launched alongside the iPhone 7, marking Apple’s shift away from the headphone jack. These wireless earbuds debuted in December 2016 and have led to a range of AirPods models.
  3. Original HomePod:
    • Release Year: 2018 (after a delayed launch from WWDC 2017)
    • Discontinued: March 2021
    • Noteworthy: Despite being discontinued, the HomePod saw a revival with a new model released in January 2023.

Upcoming Apple Innovations: Apple is gearing up to introduce new AI features for the Apple Vision Pro. Announced at WWDC 2024, these updates will include advanced Writing Tools, an AI-powered Siri, Genmoji, and more. Initially planned for iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, these features will now be integrated into the Vision Pro, though they may not be available until early next year or with visionOS 3 in late 2025.

This vintage designation highlights the significant role these products have played in Apple’s evolution and the tech industry’s history.
