Apple’s iOS 18.1 Beta Introduces Call Recording and AI Features

Apple

New Delhi: Apple’s latest iOS 18.1 developer beta has unveiled a groundbreaking feature allowing users to record and transcribe phone calls. This new addition, revealed during June’s Worldwide Developers Conference, can be accessed via a “record” button positioned in the upper-left corner of the call screen. This functionality is particularly useful for journalists conducting phone interviews and for individuals needing to remember important conversations, such as medical consultations.

Once call recording is activated, all participants will receive a notification stating, “This call will be recorded.” The Phone app will then automatically record the conversation and provide a transcription, which will appear in the Notes app. Additionally, users will receive an AI-generated summary of the call and the full audio recording in the Notes app, enhancing the utility of this feature.

The iOS 18.1 beta also includes other Apple Intelligence features, such as an updated Siri design, email summaries in the Mail app, and natural language search in photos. However, these enhancements will initially be available exclusively on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models. Apple has not yet announced the release date for the stable version of iOS 18.1, but it is anticipated to be available in October or early November.

For those interested in testing these new features, the iOS 18.1 beta can be downloaded, though users should be cautious of potential bugs. It is advisable to install beta software on a backup device. iPadOS 18.1, featuring similar updates, will be available for iPads with M1 silicon or later in Q3 2024.
