Google Introduces Gemini on Messages and Gen-AI in Android Auto at MWC 2024

New Delhi: Google showcased a series of generative AI updates at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, including the integration of Google’s Gemini chatbot into the Messages app on Android devices. Gemini Chatbot features SMS drafting and meeting scheduling synced with Google’s email and calendar services.

Generative AI is also being incorporated into Google’s Android Auto platform for cars. A built-in AI model will summarize text messages while Android Auto is connected to the vehicle’s infotainment unit.

According to John Renaldi, senior director of product and design for Wear OS, Messages on Gemini will be available starting this week.

Maneka Shroff, senior marketing director of Google’s global Android ecosystem, said that these advancements are part of Google’s efforts to enhance interoperability technologies and ensure better device compatibility.

Google has introduced accessibility features to its Lookout app, such as AI-generated captions, which enable automatic audio descriptions for on-screen content. This reflects Samsung’s recent implementation of similar features in its Galaxy S24 smartphone series.

The company has also extended screen reading features to Google Lens via Maps and extended the ‘Circle to Search’ feature to the wider Android ecosystem, which was originally seen in Samsung’s S24 series.

Google’s announcements are in line with efforts by other tech giants in the field of generative AI. For example, Microsoft unveiled generic AI-powered real-time analysis of voice calls to protect against fraud, while Qualcomm introduced its AI Hub, allowing developers to create new applications for Snapdragon-powered devices. Provided access to more AI models.
