In LG Korea office, employees text ACs when it gets too hot or too cold
New Delhi: In many office environments, employees often struggle with extreme temperatures, leading to conflicts over the AC remote. However, at LG’s Twin Towers office in Seoul, South Korea, the situation is different. Here, employees don’t wait for administrative support to adjust the temperature. Instead, they text the smart AC directly with their temperature preferences. The smart AC then adjusts the temperature based on their feedback. This seemingly futuristic solution is made possible by LG’s cloud-based air solution care system, ensuring a comfortable environment for all employees.
During a conversation with India Today Tech, LG’s Global PR Lead, Lea Lee, explained the innovative temperature control feature at LG’s Twin Towers office. She described how employees use an app called Connect On, which was piloted at this location and is currently available in Korea. “Once, I booked a meeting room that became too hot and humid. Instead of calling the admin team, I simply texted the AC via the Connect On app,” she shared. When asked how the Connect On app manages multiple requests from various employees, Lee explained that the app collects all requests and responds to the most common preferences. “It usually takes 5-10 minutes for the AC to adjust to the desired temperature after a request is sent,” she noted. This feature isn’t exclusive to the Twin Towers office. Lee mentioned that all LG facilities have their own apps designed to enhance the working environment by responding to requests or complaints. These apps are accessible to all LG employees.
Understanding the technology behind the ability for employees to text their AC preferences
The technology behind this convenience is primarily supported by the LG BECON cloud, a cloud-based air solution care system designed to monitor and maintain LG System Air-conditioners and HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) units in real-time. According to a blog shared by LG, here’s how this technology works:
- User Interaction: Employees use an app, such as Connect On, to send their temperature preferences to the AC system. This app communicates directly with the smart AC units via the BECON cloud. When an employee texts their desired temperature, the system receives this input in real-time and adjusts the settings accordingly.
- Continuous Monitoring: The LG BECON cloud continuously monitors the performance and status of LG air conditioning systems. This 24/7 monitoring capability allows for the immediate detection of any abnormal behavior or issues, ensuring that the systems are always functioning optimally.
- Big Data Analysis: The BECON cloud utilizes big data analysis to manage and prioritize multiple requests. When numerous employees send temperature preferences, the system aggregates these inputs and determines the most common or urgent needs. This ensures that the temperature is adjusted to meet the collective demand, providing a comfortable environment for the majority.
This advanced technology not only enhances comfort but also ensures efficiency and reliability in maintaining the optimal working environment.
