Maserati Unveils GranCabrio Convertible: Combining Performance with Open-Top Thrills
New Delhi: Maserati has followed up the success of the GranTurismo with the introduction of the all-new GranCabrio in 2023, promising to enhance the dramatic experience without compromising on performance or comfort. Swapping the coupe roof for a folding fabric arrangement, the GranCabrio offers the convenience of lowering or raising its roof in just 14 seconds, even while travelling at speeds of up to 50 kmph.
Powered by a strong 542hp, twin-turbo V6 engine, the GranCabrio shares its Nettuno 3.0-litre powerplant with the Gran Turismo and MC20 sportscars. Initially unveiled in top-spec Trofeo form, it boasts 550hp and is equipped with all-wheel drive as standard.
While the acceleration figures and top speed of the GranCabrio have not been revealed yet, Maserati claims that the Gran Turismo can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 3.5 seconds and achieve a top speed of 320 kmph. However, these numbers may see a slight variation due to the convertible configuration.
While Maserati has hinted at the possibility of offering the GranCabrio with the coupe’s 490hp V6 and 760hp electric powertrain, the Folgore EV variant has been spotted undergoing testing abroad, hinting at its imminent arrival.
Similar in appearance to its coupe counterpart, the GranCabrio features a fabric soft top, available in five colours, operated via a touch button on the central display. Sporting quintessential sportscar proportions, signature Maserati details include the oval grille with Trident logo, three air vents on the front fenders and slim, vertical headlamps with thin, L-shaped LED daytime running lamps.
Internally, the GranCabrio looks a lot like its coupe sibling, featuring a classic analog clock on the dashboard as well as dual screens for infotainment and HVAC controls. The steering wheel and digital dials remain unchanged, with a new standard neck-warmer system with three levels of heat output introduced. An optional manually operated wind deflector reduces turbulence on passengers.
In the Indian market, Maserati has confirmed the arrival of the Gran Turismo Coupe between April and June 2024, followed by the Gran Turismo Folgore EV in the October-December period. Given the previous availability of the GranCabrio variant in India, it is estimated that this new model will probably reach Indian shores around 2025.
