MG’s ₹7 Lakh EV tops charts for affordability in India (230km range)
New Delhi: India’s electric car market is blossoming, but budget-friendly choices remain limited. While established players like Tata and Mahindra offer EVs, MG Motors has taken the lead in affordability.
The MG Comet EV disrupts the market with a starting price of Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom), significantly lower than competitors. This has translated to impressive sales, exceeding 4,493 units in the first five months of 2024.

- Executive – Rs 6.99 lakh
- Excite – Rs 7.98 lakh
- Excite FC – Rs 8.45 lakh

The Comet EV boasts a permanent magnet synchronous motor generating 42 PS and 110 Nm of torque. Paired with a 17.3 kWh battery, it offers a commendable range of 230 km on a single charge. Charging options include a 3.3 kW charger for a 0-100% charge in 7 hours, or a faster 7.4 kW charger that achieves the same feat in 3.5 hours.
Despite its budget-friendly price tag, the Comet EV doesn’t compromise on features. It comes equipped with LED headlamps and taillamps, an illuminated MG logo, and front and rear connecting lights. Inside, the cabin features a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a dual 10.25-inch display layout for instruments and infotainment, wireless smartphone connectivity, and a unique two-spoke multi-function steering wheel.
Adding to its appeal, the MG Comet EV is a connected car with i-Smart technology. This allows users to access over 55 features for enhanced convenience and safety.
