Students Showcase Innovation and Sustainability at AWS Think Big Science Carnival 2024

Mumbai: Students presented innovative projects and learned about developing technology at the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Think Big Science Carnival. Sustainability was the main theme of the 5th annual AWS Think Big Science Carnival 2024, organized in collaboration with Learning Links Foundation. The annual AWS Think Big Science Carnival is an important initiative organized by Amazon Web Services (AWS) Communities in partnership with the Learning Links Foundation. It is part of the AWS Think Big Space program, a platform designed to provide students from disadvantaged communities with a dedicated space to develop their skills in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) subjects. Has gone. The carnival provides students with an opportunity to identify and solve real-world problems using technology and engineering. It encourages them to explore and innovate, preparing them for future careers in science, technology and mathematics.

This year’s carnival focused on sustainability, with students presenting projects in two areas: ‘Eco Warriors’ and ‘Sustainable Cities’, which are in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event was attended by approximately 2000 students from 56 schools and reflected its emphasis on sustainability from its design to its vibrant creativity and thematic range. It actively promoted sustainability efforts such as the Climate Pledge, where students can commit to environmentally friendly practices.

The carnival also provided students with information about technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and Cloud Computing through sessions conducted by AWS experts. Interactive technology displays including Amazon Echo (Alexa) and augmented reality demos provided hands-on experiences to students and teachers.

The AWS Think Big Space program has been implemented in 50 schools in Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and 6 schools in Thane since 2019. AWS Communities has set up 35 such spaces in NMMC schools, including 13 STEAM labs, and a mobile Think Big. space, and 21 STEAM corners, which will benefit more than 13,000 students.

Students participating in AWS Think Big Science Carnival have also participated in various state, national and international level competitions, winning awards such as Inspire Award, Jigyasa, Khula Aasman, Young Scientist India, First Tech Challenge and competitions organized by IITs Are.
