Who Is Mira Murati, the New Interim CEO of OpenAI?

Delhi: OpenAI has recently made a public announcement regarding the removal of Sam Altman from the CEO position. In light of this development, the OpenAI board has designated Mira Murati, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), as the interim CEO. Currently, the board is actively engaged in a search process to identify a qualified candidate for the permanent CEO role. Now, thirty four-year-old Mira Murati will be stepping into Altman’s shoes but only temporarily. Murati has been working for the AI company as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

Who Is Mira Murati?

Murati, born to Albanian parents and educated in Canada, holds a mechanical engineering background. During her time at Dartmouth College, she constructed a hybrid race car for her senior project, as reported by the New York Times. Early in her career, she interned at Goldman Sachs before transitioning to Zodiac Aerospace. Following her tenure at Zodiac Aerospace, Murati spent three years as a senior product manager at Tesla.

In 2018, Murati joined OpenAI as the vice president of AI and partnerships, subsequently earning a promotion to senior vice president of research, product, and partnerships in 2020. Her role evolved further, and she assumed the position of OpenAI’s Chief Technology Officer in 2022.
