G20 leaders endorses Goa Roadmap and ‘Travel for LiFE’ program to provide big boost to tourism sector.

Delhi: The G20 Leaders’ Summit in Delhi serves as a testament to India’s leadership in promoting global unity and cooperation. The summit brought together some of the world’s most influential leaders who shared a common vision for the future. Their joint commitment to addressing global challenges reaffirms the importance of international collaboration. One noteworthy achievement during the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Delhi was the unanimous approval of the vital role that tourism and culture play in driving sustainable socio-economic development and prosperity. The “G20 Leaders Declaration” adopted during the summit emphasized the significance of the ‘Goa Roadmap for Tourism as a means to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)’. The Delhi Declaration represents a fresh approach to the tourism sector, with the G20 Goa Roadmap outlining the challenges, objectives, opportunities and recommendations for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in tourism.

The ‘GOA Roadmap’, a central achievement of India’s G20 Tourism Track, is an innovative initiative that serves as a guide for fostering sustainable tourism on a global scale. In line with the theme of India’s G20 Presidency, the Goa Roadmap emphasizes the role of tourism in society, the economy, and environmental responsibility. By concentrating on the five interrelated priorities that the G20 Tourism Working Group identified and endorsed – Green Tourism, Digitalization, Skills, Tourism Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) and Destination Management. The roadmap presents a comprehensive strategy for nations to align their tourism policies with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for 2030.

In line with our dedication to this cause, the Ministry of Tourism, in partnership with the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), has introduced the G20 Tourism and SDG Dashboard. This groundbreaking initiative will serve as a global repository, showcasing the most successful sustainable tourism practices and policies from G20 nations through best practices and case studies. Its purpose is to be a comprehensive resource that assists nations and industry stakeholders on their journey to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through tourism. Moving forward, the Ministry of Tourism plans to promote the GOA Roadmap by running awareness campaigns. These campaigns will educate State/UT Governments and private stakeholders on the significance of incorporating recommended actions to enhance sustainable, resilient, and inclusive tourism.
