Sumit Nagal Set to Represent India in Davis Cup Against Sweden

New Delhi: India’s top singles tennis player, Sumit Nagal, has made a much-anticipated return to the Davis Cup team for the upcoming World Group I tie against Sweden. The match is scheduled for September 14-15, and will be held on indoor hard courts in Stockholm. This will be a crucial contest as India looks to advance in the prestigious tournament.

Sumit Nagal, who had missed India’s historic tie against Pakistan in Islamabad, is now back in the squad and expected to play a leading role. His return brings a significant boost to the team, given his strong recent form. Sumit Nagal’s presence will be vital as India faces the challenge of competing on an indoor hard court, a surface that suits his game.

However, Yuki Bhambri, another key player, has opted out of the tie. His absence is a notable one, but the Indian team remains optimistic with the inclusion of other experienced players. The squad also features Ramkumar Ramanathan, N Sriram Balaji, Niki Poonacha, and former national champion Siddharth Vishwakarma. Niki Poonacha made his Davis Cup debut in the previous tie against Pakistan, and his inclusion adds depth to the team.

Additionally, Aryan Shah has been named as the reserve tennis player, ready to step in if needed. Notably, Sasikumar Mukund, India’s third-highest-ranked player, was not considered for selection due to a two-tie suspension for refusing to play in the Pakistan tie earlier this year.

In a change to the coaching staff, former national champion Ashutosh Singh will serve as the new coach for the national team. His experience and leadership will be crucial as India prepares for this important encounter against Sweden. With Sumit Nagal leading the charge, the Indian team is determined to put up a strong performance in Stockholm.
