SUVs Dominate June Sales: Punch, Creta, Brezza Lead
New Delhi: The SUV segment is currently the largest in India, accounting for over 50% of total car sales. This trend is evident in the sales volumes and the list of the 10 best-selling models each month. Historically, Maruti Suzuki hatchbacks like the WagonR, Swift, and Baleno dominated the top sales positions. However, SUVs are now challenging their supremacy. Recently, Tata Motors’ micro SUV, the Punch, has performed exceptionally well, frequently topping the sales charts.
In June 2024, five of the 10 best-selling cars in India were SUVs. The list also included three hatchbacks, one sedan, and one MPV. Maruti Suzuki India maintained its dominance with six models, followed by Tata Motors with two. Hyundai Motor India and Mahindra & Mahindra each had one model in the top 10.
The Tata Punch led the sales with 18,238 units in June, continuing its success from March and April. The new Maruti Suzuki Swift followed closely with 16,422 units, while the Hyundai Creta impressed with 16,293 units sold.
Maruti Suzuki’s Ertiga MPV also had a strong month, selling 15,902 units and surpassing the popular Maruti Suzuki Baleno, which sold 14,895 units. The Maruti Suzuki WagonR recorded 13,790 units sold.
In the sedan category, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire continued to perform well with 13,421 units sold in June. The Maruti Suzuki Brezza maintained its impressive sales run in FY25, selling 13,172 units. The Mahindra Scorpio, including the N and Classic variants, registered sales of 12,307 units.
The Tata Nexon, India’s best-selling SUV for three consecutive years in FY22, FY23, and FY24, re-entered the top 10 list with 12,066 units sold in June, after missing out in April and May.
