Tata Tops Safety Rankings for Indian SUVs

New Delhi: SUVs now dominate the Indian car market, accounting for over half of all car sales. Major players include Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors, Kia, and Toyota. But when it comes to safety, one brand stands out: Tata Motors.

Tata’s Strong SUV Lineup Earns Top Safety Ratings

Tata Motors boasts a robust SUV portfolio with four models: Punch, Nexon, Harrier, and Safari. The Punch and Nexon come in both gasoline and electric versions, while the Harrier and flagship Safari are diesel-powered.

Recently, both the electric Punch (Punch.ev) and Nexon (Nexon.ev) achieved a perfect five-star safety rating in the Bharat NCAP crash tests. This follows similar success for the Harrier and Safari, which earned five stars in India’s new car assessment program (NCAP) tests conducted in December 2023.

Impressively, all four Tata SUVs scored the highest possible rating (five stars) in both the adult occupant protection and child occupant protection categories of the Bharat NCAP tests. As of now, results for other car manufacturers’ SUVs haven’t been released.

Global Recognition for Tata’s Safety Focus

Tata’s commitment to safety extends beyond India. All four SUVs have also received a coveted five-star safety rating from Global NCAP, demonstrating their exceptional performance in international safety standards.

Price Range for Tata’s Safe SUVs

The Punch, Tata’s entry-level SUV, offers an internal combustion engine (ICE) variant priced between Rs 6.12 lakh and Rs 10.19 lakh (ex-showroom). The electric version (Punch.ev) falls within the Rs 10.98 lakh to Rs 15.49 lakh (ex-showroom) range.

The Nexon’s price starts at Rs 7.99 lakh for the ICE version and goes up to Rs 15.79 lakh (ex-showroom). The Nexon EV falls between Rs 14.49 lakh and Rs 19.49 lakh (ex-showroom).

For those seeking larger SUVs, the Harrier ranges from Rs 15.49 lakh to Rs 26.44 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Safari sits between Rs 16.19 lakh and Rs 27.34 lakh (ex-showroom).

Safety First: Tata Leads the Way

With its impressive safety ratings across all four SUV models, Tata Motors has established itself as a leader in prioritizing occupant protection in the Indian market. This achievement provides valuable information for car buyers seeking a safe and reliable SUV option.
