CPA Australia Partners with ICAI to Upskill Next Generation Accountants

One of the world’s largest accounting bodies, CPA Australia continues to strengthen its ties with India and ICAI to shape the future of the global accounting profession

New Delhi– Continuing its vision to shape the future of global accounting profession, CPA Australia, one of the world’s largest professional accounting bodies, partners with Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) to upskill next generation accountants.

CPA Australia and its leadership team recently visited India and participated in the World Forum of Accountants (WOFA) hosted by ICAI. During WOFA, the team shared insights on the evolving role of accountants, and the growing importance of non-financial accounting including sustainability reporting.

During WOFA, the ICAI Central Council has approved a proposal to allow Australian members of CPA Australia to practice in India on a reciprocal basis, opening new avenues for cross-border collaboration. Further, CPA Australia and ICAI are in advanced discussions to collaborate on upskilling accounting professionals in non-financial (sustainability) reporting.

Prof. Dale Pinto, President and Chair of the Board, CPA Australia, emphasised the collaborative potential between the two nations, saying: “Australia offers extensive experience in governance, education, and sustainability, while India brings unparalleled scale, creativity, and ambition. Together, we can develop solutions that extend well beyond our borders, benefiting not just our countries but the entire global accounting profession.”

Speaking at a recent Global Summit, organized by CPA Australia in partnership with ASSOCHAM, CA Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal, Chairman of ICAI, highlighted the critical role accountants play in integrating non-financial aspects into financial reporting: “Accountants have a larger role to play in ensuring non-financial aspects are seamlessly integrated with financial data, providing stakeholders with comprehensive and reliable integrated financial statements.”

Along with sustainability, technology adoption is also becoming critical for accountants. According to the Business Technology Report 2024 by CPA Australia in partnership with ASSOCHAM, over 70% of survey respondents said technology adoption positively impacts their ESG goals.

To support the ongoing adoption of technology and sustainable accounting practices, CPA Australia offers specialised micro-credentialed courses that help accounting and finance professionals develop skills for the evolving digital landscape. These programs cover key emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), enabling professionals to stay relevant and effectively navigate the growing demand for sustainability reporting.

Chris Freeland AM, CEO of CPA Australia, welcomed ICAI’s initiatives and emphasized the organisation’s commitment to continue being a partner in progress for accountants around the world: “Our partnership with ICAI reflects our shared dedication to driving forward the future of the accounting profession. Together, we are empowering accountants to navigate emerging challenges, embrace sustainability, and develop the skills needed for success in a rapidly evolving world.” Through its focus on continuous professional development, technology integration, and sustainability reporting, CPA Australia is ensuring that the next generation of accountants is prepared to meet the challenges of the future.
