Ghaziabad Boosts Surveillance with a Network of 7,500 CCTV Cameras

New Delhi: In a significant step towards enhancing public safety, the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation is set to integrate a network of 7,500 CCTV cameras, which will enhance the surveillance capabilities of the city. The initiative is being led by the “Safe City Loop” project, which involves the strategic installation of cameras aimed at identifying crime hotspots, monitoring public spaces and assisting in the identification of potential miscreants.

The municipal corporation has started integration of 1,500 CCTV cameras at public places by connecting them to a centralized control room. An additional set of 6,000 cameras will be included in the “Secure City Loop”, which will help in comprehensive crime surveillance and detection. The project comes at a cost of approximately ₹4.8 crore.

“Except for 1,500 CCTV cameras, the remaining 6,000 cameras will not be integrated with the control room and their feed will not be available for live monitoring,” Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation Commissioner Vikramaditya Malik said while outlining the plan.

Residents will play a key role in this surveillance initiative as they will be requested to store CCTV recordings for a period of 7-15 days under the “Safe City Loop” project. These recordings, which are not integrated with the control room, can be accessed by the police/administration in case of any crime or accident.

Furthermore, Ghaziabad city is set to see an additional influx of CCTV cameras under the Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) within the next six months. With a total cost of ₹85.75 crore, the ITMS project aims to provide traffic management, enforcement and incident detection at 41 selected locations across the city.

This multi-pronged approach to surveillance underlines Ghaziabad’s commitment to creating a safe and secure urban environment by using advanced technology for the benefit of its residents.
