Soldier Killed in Anti-Terror Operation in J&K’s Poonch
New Delhi: On Tuesday, a fierce encounter erupted along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Battal sector of Poonch district, Soldier Killed in Anti-Terror Operation, Lance Naik Subhash Chander of the 7 Jat Regiment. Officials confirmed that Chander, who hailed from Nagla Mani village in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh, succumbed to his injuries after a courageous battle with infiltrating terrorists. The tragic incident occurred around 3 am, when soldiers noticed suspicious movement by two terrorists.
“Lance Naik Subhash Chander, who was part of an ambush on the LoC in the Battal area of Krishna Ghati sector, suffered critical injuries during the exchange of fire,” officials reported. Despite the soldiers’ swift response to the threat, Chander sustained severe wounds in the heavy gunfire.
The White Knight Corps, a key division of the Indian Army, relayed the grim news through their official handle on ‘X’, formerly known as Twitter. “Alert troops foiled an #infiltration bid by effectively engaging infiltrating #terrorists with effective fire in the #Battal Sector at 0300h (3 am). During the exchange of heavy fire, one braveheart has been injured. Operations are continuing,” . The news of Chander’s death later confirmed the soldier’s valiant efforts in the face of danger.
This incident follows closely on the heels of another attack that occurred on Monday, where terrorists targeted the house of a village defence guard, Parshotam Kumar, and an army picket at Gundna Khawas. The attack left Kumar’s uncle, Vijay Kumar, and a soldier wounded. The Nagrota-based 16 Corps reported the incident, emphasizing the growing threat of terrorist presence in the region. The attack, which took place at 3.10 am, has instilled fear among local residents.
These violent episodes unfolded merely days after Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi conducted a joint security review meeting on Saturday. The meeting, held at the police headquarters, involved Jammu and Kashmir Police, paramilitary forces, and intelligence agencies, focusing on the prevailing security scenario. The recent spate of terrorist activities underscores the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in the region and highlights the sacrifices made by soldiers like Lance Naik Subhash Chander in protecting the nation.
