BCCI Announces Revised India Squad for 5th Test: Jasprit Bumrah Returns, Washington Sundar Released, No KL Rahul

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed the updated squad for the fifth and final Test against England in Dharamsala. The announcement sees the return of Jasprit Bumrah to the team after being rested for the fourth Test in Ranchi to manage his workload. Bumrah’s return is expected to strengthen the Indian bowling attack and he could potentially replace Akash Deep in the playing eleven.

In a significant development, KL Rahul has been ruled out of the final Test due to an ongoing problem in his right quad. Rahul, who did not play the last three Tests against England, is currently undergoing treatment under the supervision of specialists in London. As a result, Rajat Patidar’s inconsistent performance in Rahul’s absence could pave the way for a Test debut for Devdutt Padikkal, who would add another dimension to India’s batting lineup.

Additionally, off-spin bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar has been released from the squad to participate in the Ranji Trophy semi-finals for Tamil Nadu. Sundar’s absence from the team was expected due to the presence of established spinners like Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav.

The recovery of Mohammed Shami, who underwent surgery for his right heel problem on February 26, is going well. He is set to begin his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru soon.

The revised squad for the 5th Test comprises:

  • Rohit Sharma (C)
  • Jasprit Bumrah (VC)
  • Yashasvi Jaiswal
  • Shubman Gill
  • Rajat Patidar
  • Sarfaraz Khan
  • Dhruv Jurel (WK)
  • KS Bharat (WK)
  • Devdutt Padikkal
  • R Ashwin
  • Ravindra Jadeja
  • Axar Patel
  • Kuldeep Yadav
  • Mohd. Siraj
  • Mukesh Kumar
  • Akash Deep

India currently leads the five-match series 3-1 and aims to secure a victory in the final Test to strengthen its position in the World Test Championship points table.
