Porsche Likely to Introduce Lower-Priced Macan EV Variants in India

New Delhi: Porsche enthusiasts in India can look forward to more accessible options in the Macan lineup, as the brand prepares to introduce lower-powered variants of the electric second-generation Macan SUV. While the initial focus has been on the range-topping, 639hp Macan Turbo variant, Porsche is gearing up to unveil more affordable EV options later this year, potentially expanding the market reach of its popular SUV.

  • Expansion of Macan EV Range: Porsche is set to introduce additional variants of the Macan EV, catering to a broader spectrum of customers. While the current offering is the high-performance Macan Turbo, new variants are expected to offer lower power outputs, making them more accessible in terms of pricing.
  • Speculated Variants: The anticipated variant is the Macan 4S, positioned between the base model and the range-topping Turbo. With an estimated power output of around 500hp, the Macan 4S is expected to maintain a balance between performance and affordability. Additionally, a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive variant using the rear motor of the Macan 4 may also join the lineup.
  • Consistent Battery Configuration: All variants of the Macan EV will share the same 100kWh battery configuration, ensuring uniformity in performance and range across the lineup. Despite offering lower power outputs, the upcoming variants will not compromise on battery capacity.
  • Continuation of Gen 1 Petrol Model: While Porsche is phasing out the Gen 1 ICE Macan in certain markets due to regulatory changes, the petrol variant will continue to be available in select regions, including India. With sustained demand for petrol-powered vehicles in India and no imminent regulatory hurdles, the decade-old Gen 1 Macan will remain on sale alongside its electric successor.
  • Ongoing Sales of Gen 1 Macan: The Gen 1 Macan, which made its debut in 2014 and received updates over the years, continues to be offered in India in three variants: the base 2.0-litre four-cylinder model, and the higher-spec 2.9-litre six-cylinder models, namely the Macan S and GTS. While earlier reports suggested the end of a sale by 2025, the final decision on its discontinuation remains pending.

As Porsche expands its electric vehicle portfolio with the Macan EV, customers can anticipate a wider range of options catering to diverse preferences and budgets. Stay tuned for the upcoming review of the new Macan EV, scheduled to go live on April 23, 2024.
